David Letterman had a pretty good observation on the presidential
conundrum: "Right now, Al Gore hasn't won the election. George Bush hasn't
won the election either. So why don't we quit while we're ahead". Watching
their actions in Florida, I have to agree. With the injection of lawyers
to decide who won, no matter who wins, 1/2 the country will feel the election
was stolen from them. I wish these guys would think about the country and
not just their own desires.
In any event, I've been somewhat remiss in updating the photos at our website so here are two groups of new ones. Regards, Logan. When you swim in the creek And an eel bites your cheek That's a moray! |

Winter continues with some of the best skiing of the season over
the last week. Fabulous snow and nobody up here. Still, it's getting on
towards spring; Keystone sank their Zamboni in the lake. It's not supposed
to be a tradition but they seem to do it just about every year. In case
you don't know, a Zamboni is that thing that looks like a street sweeper
used to smooth out the ice for ice skaters by spraying hot water on it.
Apparently they weigh several tons and sink very rapidly when they break
through the ice. At Keystone, I think they require the driver to take a swimming
test before they get the job.
On the home front, we've decided that we need a bigger house so we are in the process of selling this one. We have a good offer with lease back provisions through June of 1999. Hopefully we get to closing without any hiccups. We don't know exactly where we are going to move to but we've considered building up here, moving to Colorado Springs or perhaps California. If you havn't clicked on the picture at the right, you might be wondering why we need a bigger house. A clue; it's not a bean. For the rest of the story, click on the "bean". Finally, Josh the dog got busted for chasing the animal control officer. He usually doesn't chase anything (he's 16 years old) but on this day he decided to chase one car. Guess which one? Here's his citation for meritorious chase: click here. Todays thought: Do radioactive cats have 18 half lives? |

So far it's been a quiet winter with not much snow; those darn
Californians keep sucking all the water out of the clouds so all we get
is sunshine and beautiful weather. It's really terrible.
We've been adding a room to the house by making the upstairs2 loft accessible using a spiral staircase. Logan's going to move part of his office up there to convert the current office into a bedroom. Lofts are fine as bedrooms until you get an active baby downstairs. Maggie is continuing to grow like a Bonsai; she hasn't put on much weight for the last three months. My suspicion is that she is so active she can't eat enough to keep up. She's got four teeth now and is probably going to get weened real soon. I hear "OWWW, NO BITING!!" at least once a day. Well, that's all for now. Today's thought for today: Cats are intended to teach us that not everything in nature has a function. - Garrison Keillor |

January 17, 1998:
Over the Thanksgiving holiday we spent two weeks in the San Francisco
California area visiting with relatives. First we spent a few days with
Bob (Suzanne's older brother) and his wife Gayle in Sebastopol California.
They had seven new puppies about 4 weeks old that were (are?) extremely
cute. Here is a picture of one of them.
Seeing the mayhem they caused, we had to wonder about those folks who
had septapuplets about the same time. We then went down to Scott's Valley
to stay with Henry (another one of Suzanne's older
brothers) & Susan for Thanksgiving dinner. Suzanne's whole family was
there and we ate too much. Afterwards, we ate some more.
Finally, we headed into San Francisco and met up with my cousin Rob and his ex-girlfriend (now fiance) Cheryl. We met up with a bunch of their friends some of whom live up on Mount Tam.We went hiking out in Muir Woods with them but Rob led us directly to a beer garden not on the maps so we stopped in and had a couple. The Tourist Club has been there for over a hundred years so they are grandfathered in. Later, we rejoined the party for some wonderful potluck food. My Dad and his wife Amy were also in town and we had a lot of fun with them. We were all staying in the Union Square area so each morning we'd meet for breakfast at Sear's, one of the best breakfast spots in SF and plan our day. We went out to Alcatraz and were pleasantly surprised by how interesting a place it is. The audio tour was outstanding and well worth the cost. The prison cells were quite childproof and now that Maggie is crawling, I'd like to get one for her. Returning home, we have settled in for the winter and some skiing. It is finally beginning to snow heavily and Maggie is all signed up for day care once a week. Everyone is doing well and we hope to see you soon. Heavy snow up here in the mountains today. My sister Laurel is up here visiting between traveling assignments. She's a Physical Terrorist who takes 3 month assignments around the country to fill in at locations where they are short. She's hoping to end up in Western Massachussets for her next assignment. In the meantime, we'll try and get in some cross country skiing later today. Some of the local downhill ski resorts are open but we are holding off waiting for Copper Mountain to open. We got their $295 Hooky passes good Monday through Friday all season; what a deal and there aren't any bugs this time of year. See you out there on the slopes. In the meantime, here are some pictures from our trip to Yellowstone last year, just click on Suzanne. We also have a few photos of our neighbourhood. | ![]() |
October 8, 1997:
First snow up here in the mountains today, winter has arrived. So much for planting bulbs today. Good thing we've been doing plenty of hiking. We went up to Hanging Lake near Glenwood Springs last week with every intention of jumping into the hot springs later but were so enchanted with the waterfalls that we stayed up at the falls and watched the trout. The Denver Hotel in Glenwood now has a brewpub with pretty good food so we ate there.
September 26, 1997:
Suzanne is back from visiting her family out in California where she and Maggie had a fun and relaxing time. The Aspen leaves are currently at their peak so we will be going out to take pictures and put them in a box with the rest of the Aspen pictures from years past. We will try and post some to the web so everyone can see. Logan is just back from Washington D.C. where he was teaching a course on GPS to about 40 people. On Sunday he went to the Corcoran gallery to see the Gordon Parks retrospective. Parks was a Life magazine staff photographer among other things and this exhibit is well worth seeing. It will be in D.C. through 11 January 1998 and then moves on to the Minnesota Museum of Art from Feb 14 through May 14 1998. As always, click on the baby for photos. | ![]() |
